International Marketing Manager – Sailing/ Evolution

Reports to: Marketing Director

Summary To create, own and execute the marketing strategies for the Sailing and Evolution product categories both internally and across all routes to market globally, contributing towards brand and business objectives through delivery of market leading tools, programs and activities that build Musto’s position as the world’s leading offshore sailing brand and deliver the approved Brand Vision.

Role accountabilities
  • Lead, create and present the bi-annual marketing campaign plans for both the Sailing and Evolution categories; being involved in the product development process by inputting to hero products, create and write the editorial stories in order to create buzz around the products in order to entice consumers to buy them. Ensure international resonance and adherence to the company critical path and brand calendar.
  • Develop then share marketing tools and assets to excite, engage, motivate and equip the sales teams, distributers and stakeholders, that are also customer facing.
  • Manage sailing and evolution annual marketing budgets, accountable for the process from initial submission, forecasting, spend phasing and monthly reporting with responsibility for adherence to required total annual spend as defined by the Marketing Director. Ensure costs are accurate and tracked through the PO system with finance.
  • Write campaign briefs, activity plans based on targets such as revenue, CPA and conversion. Post campaign analysis and reporting.
  • Manage the category PR plans to reinforce brand values and affirm brand positioning within the core category media; utilise the sport and Musto status within it to reach out beyond established consumer and media base.
  • Gain buy in to campaigns from the business.
  • Be an authority on sailing in all its forms, and the outdoor sports and ‘adventure’ marketplaces regularly updating the business on the latest developments and opportunities within the sport, using this knowledge and understanding of the market to deliver insight and advantage to Musto.
  • Set up customer research to feed into product development and marketing communications development.
  • Attend industry events to promote Musto and for research purposes.
  • Be innovative in the use of limited resources to create relevant ‘brand/product’ content (photos/videos/infographics etc) for use in our channels and external channels to promote the Musto brand to new audiences.
  • Run the Musto Brand Ambassadors Programme. Ensure both parties needs are met in line with contractual and budgetary parameters to maximise Brand exposure and leverage properties to deliver authenticity of Musto within the sport.
  • Ensure ALL communications on are on MUSTO brand as defined by the Brand Book.
  • Collaborate with sales leads and Visual Merchandising team to create and deliver in-store and window programs each season to elevate the brand vs. our competitors.

  • Provide value for money POS offering for Musto retail and for the wider account base and the customers of International distributors.
  • Manage seasonal image creation through planning photoshoots to meet the global business requirements and deliver brand appropriate visual imagery.
  • Manage category specific trade show, consumer show and sporting event program to maximise brand exposure whilst delivering on business goals within budgetary constraints.
  • Undertake designated project work as required by the Marketing Director.

General accountabilities

Knowledge, skills and Experience

A genuine passion and participant in sports, a follower of the sailing market at all levels and awareness of current trends with an ability to translate these to the Musto brand, may have been a competitive sports person previously. Must be well connected and known within the sport and the industry surrounding on & offshore sailing and dinghy, plus other outdoor sports such as rugby, skiing and in particular ‘adventuring’.

Previous or current experience working for a comparable brand or competitor in a similar role is highly desirable, in particular knowledge and experience of working at a brand headquarters in marketing management within the sports footwear and apparel industry. Experience of the fast paced nature of a retail business and the ability to plan ahead whilst being flexible and prepared for change whilst still meeting deadlines. Ideally have experience of managing and marketing a brand with multiple business models including home market subsidiaries, overseas subsidiaries, international distributors, retail and online. Knowledge, appreciation and empathy with differing global cultures a prerequisite.

Must be a competent and confident presenter, capable of influencing across multiple levels and speaking to large groups. Should have the gravitas, confidence and credibility to collaboratively influence high stature customers and the executive staff of business partners.

Excels in digital marketing and has developed and run integrated digital campaigns including optimizing campaigns. In depth knowledge of industry innovations, norms, benchmarks and best practice in all marketing disciplines. Knowledge and experience of the advertising, print and design industry, the processes, timelines and terminology involved and experience of managing 3rd party creative, design and production agencies is a pre-requisite. Ability to visualize, read and interpret materials at conceptual stages.

Understands the importance of a customer centric approach to marketing. The ability to analyse data sets such as Google Analytics and CRM, SEO and PPC data in order to develop data driven campaigns and interpret findings. Experience running customer research online and offline. Science, technology and engineering backgrounds are useful.

A self starter with the ability to work under minimal supervision and a strong focus on delivery. Demonstrable time management and prioritisation skills through previous experience of the management of multiple activities with simultaneous deadlines. Resilience under deadline pressure.

Degree or similar level education. A recognised marketing qualification is required. PC and or Mac expertise, good level of understanding of regularly used programs – PPT, Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, FTP transfer.

A second language appropriate to a key region would be a distinct advantage.

Occasional travel within the UK or abroad will be required.

Reporting to the IT Director, this key role will be to scope, build, monitor and evaluate robust reporting systems for the Company that process multiple sources of complex information into clear management information for decision making. This is a technical role and therefore will need some specialist skills.

Role accountabilities
  • Consult with end users on their reporting requirements in order to define a clear brief and a proposed course of action for approval by the IT Director.
  • Use a variety of analysis tools for the purpose of importing, cleaning, transforming, validating or modelling data.
  • Thorough testing of results to ensure data validity, reliability and compliance with financial or regulatory requirements.
  • Improve data quality and clarity by designing or presenting conclusions gained from analysing data using statistical tools.
  • Produce required reports in accordance with the business’s brief on a regular basis.
  • In conjunction with key stakeholders, monitor and evaluate existing data analysis systems to ensure that they continue to meet the business needs.
