The British Olympic Association has selected the Eventing riders to be part of Team GB for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
The Team will be:
William Fox-Pitt riding either Ballincoola, Parkmore Ed or Tamarillo
Sharon Hunt riding Tankers Town
Mary King rider either Call Again Cavalier or Imperial Cavalier
Zara Phillips riding Toytown
Lucy Wiegersma riding Shaabrak
First reserves:
Tina Cook with Miners Frolic
Daisy Dick with Hope Street or Spring Along
Ruth Edge with Two Thyme
Oliver Townend with Flint Curtis
William commenting on his selection, “It is very exciting news, particularly with three horses in contention. Knowing this early in the year means we can prepare for the Games in the best possible way. The Olympics is the ultimate challenge and is one which I am really looking forward to.”
Zara commented, “It is nice to be selected, but we still have a long way to go. I am lucky in that Toytown has been to Championship events before, so he knows about big occasion and has been consistent, but an Olympic Games really is special, I am delighted for Toytown as he really deserves it.”
Musto sponsored international 3 day event rider Tina Cook commented on the Olympic announcement, “It was great to be considered for the Olympics even in a reserve position as the Olympics are hugely special. I am riding by far the most inexperienced horse at the age of 10 but who had an extremely successful season last year. I didn't expect to be in the team due to his lack of experience, but we are close behind! He will be prepared for Hong Kong in the same way as the other selected horses, so we will be ready if we are needed to fill a gap.”
