6 of the best men’s winter coats

‘IT’S getting to the time of year when your thin jacket just won’t cut it any more – it’s time to pull out the winter coats.

Depending on what you’re up to, your choice of outerwear will have to vary and there are so many winter warmers to choose from.

From toasty North Face to magnificent MUSTO, here David Firth runs down some of the best men’s winter coats on the market.’

‘BEST FOR STYLE – MUSTO Watch Jacket (£175, musto.com, top middle): A beautiful jacket with hints of pea coat and duffle styling. The high-quality wool means this keeps you toasty in even the chilliest of circumstances – this performed admirably in the Freezing Cold Scooter Ride test. It has a very flattering slim fit and is comfortable enough and smart enough to be your everyday coat over the winter months. What really sets this coat apart is the detailing – piping around the shoulders and down the arms, faux chest pockets and chunky Naval clips acting as fasteners in addition to a thick metal zip. Perhaps my favourite aspect is the bright red stitching on the back of the neck area – popping your collar will not only keep the wind out but will make your coat look better too. As with most wool coats, this won’t work wonders in heavy rain but in any other weather I can’t recommend this more.’
