Our World

Letter from our holiday competition winners

We received this lovely email from our latest competition winners, Alan and Claire Swan from Margate in Kent.  They won the competition we featured in our spring/ summer menswear and womenswear catalogue to win a luxury break in Cornwall worth £1,000 in association with VisitCornwall (postcard below):

‘It took a little while to realise that I had won the competition to spend a luxury weekend in Cornwall, in conjunction with the start of the AZAB yacht race, and when I did my wife Claire and I started to really look forward to it.

We arrived at the world-renowned Tresanton Hotel at about 10am on Saturday (after what seemed like a never-ending drive from Kent) and we were not disappointed.  The moment we went to reception to check in, the car keys were given to the valet who removed all the luggage and parked the car in the hotel car park.’

‘There was little time to look around the hotel or check our room, as we had been invited to watch the start of the yacht race from Pendennis Castle, so we quickly walked down to St Mawes harbour to catch the ferry to Falmouth.  (What a wonderful Cornish town it is, really beautiful.)

We arrived in Falmouth and made our way to the castle.  There was quite a crowd, and we were lucky enough to get a good view from the top of the grounds, although of course the yachts were quite a way away.

We stood very near to where they fired the canon to start the race, there were 4 starts at 20 minute intervals for the different classes, and we were particularly interested in the yacht called Franglais, which was from Falmouth yacht club, and being sailed by Francis, who had invited us to the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club in Falmouth for Sunday lunch.’

‘After looking around the castle and sampling some of the local brew, we made our way back to the hotel, for a well-deserved shower and change for dinner.  We must say the service and choice of food were excellent and the staff could not do enough for you.  The beds were also turned down in the evening which was a nice touch.

On Sunday we had a very nice lunch at the yacht club, another fabulous day in Falmouth and St Mawes (the weather was particularly hot and sunny), a superb dinner in the evening, and the drive back all seemed worth it.

I would like to say this was a fabulous prize and congratulate MUSTO on organising such a wonderful weekend.’
