Sailing News: Musto Etchells Australasian Winter Championships begins
The 2010 MUSTO Etchells Australasian Winter Championships has set sail off the western coast of Australia.
Principal Race Officers Kevin and Ross Wilson began the race with a gun fire in Mooloolaba, Queensland, and 52 Etchells One Design boats began their epic journey.

The fleet taking part in this year’s Championships is set to be one of the strongest in the event’s 14-year history, with a host of world champions, Olympians and offshore names taking to the sails.
After two races, the end of day one saw Kiwi sailor Alastair Gair and Mark Thornburrow from Hong Kong lead the championships on equal points.
Alastair Gair crossed the finish line of the second race just ahead of Thornburrow, who was sailing on the chartered Racer X boat which won the 200 Etchells Worlds Championships.
Gair, who finished third in the 2009 event, said: “We had two good starts and good pace. We’ve been sailing a lot with our Auckland Etchells fleet over the last few months, and that time on the water has proven worthwhile.”
The MUSTO Etchells Australasian Winter Championships series takes place over three days, with the winners crowned on the final day on Sunday.
