Seahorse sailor of the month: Grant ‘Louie’ Loretz
MUSTO sponsors a ‘sailor of the month’ competition column in Seahorse magazine, and we thought we’d share the results with you. Every month we give away an Evolution Soft Shell Jacket incorporating style, performance and fleece lined GORE-TEX® fabric technology to the lucky winners.
February’s winner is GRANT ‘LOUIE’ LORETZ (NZL):
‘You always know you’re going fast when Louie is hanging on the end of the sheet’ – Matt Mason; ‘Yippee… how cool, our boys are so proud of Dadda!!!’ – Barbara Loretz; ‘Talented, top bloke’ – Peter Lester; ‘One of the best in the business’ – Grant Spanhake; ‘Like a great wine he gets better with age’ – Francesco de Angelis; ‘Brings up the level of all around him’ – Tom Burnham; ‘A solid citizen and a great sailor!’ – Terry Hutchinson; ‘Go, Louie!!!’ – Adolfo Carrau.
STEVE HOWE (USA)
Perennial enthusiast and one of the world’s best owner-drivers, Howe’s latest scalp is the 2011 Melges 32 Gold Cup, which he won recently in Ft Lauderdale, helped by a strong team that included Morgan Larson as tactician and multiple America’s Cup winner Warwick Fleury trimming mainsheet. Howe had similar success in several other tough one-design fleets including the Farr 40s where he became a regular podium fixture!
MATT CASSIDY (USA)
Lots of people have been chasing us to nominate Matt (those Christmas cards are working), but there is no doubt the roll of honour is plenty long enough to agree with them. Just a few from a long list… bowman on Team Aqua, winner of the RC44 Tour this year and mid-bow with Ed Baird on the TP52 Quantum Racing, then back on point with three-time world match race champion Ian Williams… Job done.
