Seahorse Sailor of the month: Pascal Rambeau
MUSTO sponsors a ‘sailor of the month’ competition column in Seahorse magazine, and we thought we’d share the results with you. Every month we give away an Evolution Soft Shell Jacket incorporating style, performance and fleece lined GORE-TEX® fabric technology to the lucky winners.
June’s winner is PASCAL RAMBEAU (FRA):
They only snatched the win in this year’s Bacardi Cup in the final metres of the last race, but then Pascal Rambeau, sailing in Miami with his new Star helm Guillaume Florent, already has plenty of silverware, having won two Star world titles and an Olympic bronze medal alongside his former skipper Xavier Rohart. But clearly the new team have gelled, since the at-times somewhat grumpy Florent even got around to voting for his teammate…
HASSO PLATTNER (GER)
A fine 13th in Race 1 and an overall finish of 53rd in a competitive 85-strong fleet at the 2011 505 worlds in Hamilton Island are just one reason for nominating the founder of the SAP software giant. We are big fans of keeping on racing against the best as you ‘mature’, rather than seeking soft targets… it seems Plattner shares our view.
The ‘60-something’ racer is also a generous supporter of sailing events
IAN WILLIAMS (GBR)
The former barrister defeated Italian America’s Cup skipper Francesco Bruni 2-0 in the final to take his first Congressional Cup in Long Beach, dedicating the win to his late mum who passed away during this year’s event. Williams is now trying to keep his Cup hopes flying in the Extreme 40 series – surely someone out there in Cup World will finally recognise the remarkable range of skills the double world champion can bring to a team?
