Seahorse Sailor of the month: Phil Robertson
MUSTO sponsors a ‘sailor of the month’ competition column in Seahorse magazine, and we thought we’d share the results with you. Every month we give away an Evolution Soft Shell Jacket incorporating style, performance and fleece lined GORE-TEX® fabric technology to the lucky winners.
This month’s winner is PHIL ROBERTSON (NZL).
Defeating the likes of Williams and Ainslie to win the Australia Cup certainly got the ladies’ attention. ‘Talent!’ – Elianna Wes (and others); ‘What a legend’ – Ana Crawford; ‘He’s the man’ – Rachel Schuurman; ‘Phil, all the way’ – Sally Barkow; ‘Fantastic rising star, true Kiwi passion’ – Anna Thomsen; ‘PHIL, WE LOVE YOU!!!!’ – Micaela Hollins; ‘He can rock up with the big boys and beat ’em; he even gets a laugh at the press conference’ – Lizzi Rountree.
NOPPAKAO POONPAT (THA)
In 2009 Poonpat finished 4th overall and took the women’s title at the Optimist worlds in Brazil. In 2011 in Malaysia she led home a dominant Asia contingent to take the overall title, the first time a woman has ever won the open event. Poonpat also showed champion style by taking the series – from an entry of 231 boats – with a victory in the final race. And her rigorous programme now continues back in Thailand…
ANNABEL VOSE & MEGAN BRICKWOOD (GBR)
This one was a close call with fellow Brit 420 sailor Joanna Freeman, who finished ninth overall and easily the top woman in the open fleet at this year’s 420 world championship in Argentina. But a win’s a win and the new women’s world champions did a terrific job of coming back after losing their rig during the series – finishing that particular race ‘reefed’. Could be plenty of fast mixed 470s in 2016…
