3 LAYER SYSTEM
The 3 Layer System is based on a simple principle – water transmits heat thirty times faster than air. So wet skin gets cold thirty times quicker than dry skin. To keep warm in the worst conditions, first of all you must stay dry. To do this your clothing must transport body moisture away from the skin, hold dry warm air close to the body & keep rain and snow out.
MID LAYER
WINDSTOPPER®
The revolutionary WINDSTOPPER® structure is ultra-light, ultra-thin, and highly resistant to extreme temperatures. The microporous structure of the WINDSTOPPER®
The WINDSTOPPER® membrane is used as a laminate to form a very breathable & durably windproof barrier. WINDSTOPPER® garments p rovide up to 2 and a half times more thermal insulation than conventional non-laminated garments.

The design and development of Musto’s ocean racing gear incorporates rigorous testing by Volvo Ocean Race teams to trial the garments to provide innovative and practical solutions to sailors battling the very worst of the elements. The 2014 sailing range is testimony to this, with photoluminescent reflectors added to all offshore garments as a direct result of feedback from sailors competing in the 2011/12 race. This significant experience and expertise places Musto in a unique position to offer the Dongfeng Race Team the highest level of protection using the 3 layer system to help its athletes perform to the best of their ability.
Dongfeng Race Team is racing for China in the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15. The goal of the Team is to deliver a competitive campaign with, for the first time in the history of the Race, multiple Chinese sailors on board.

The Chinese members of the Team were selected after long and arduous recruitment trials, the majority have not had offshore sailing experience but since selection the recruits have been learning fast – not only how to sail a Volvo Ocean 65 but also how to speak English to enable them to communicate with the other crew on board.

Skippered by Charles Caudrelier - a previous Volvo Ocean Race winner aboard Groupama. They are also joined by a legend of French offshore sailing, Pascal Bidégorry, who will act as navigator for the Team.

For Charles Caudrelier, Martin was one of the first people he turned to when he accepted the challenge of leading Groupama 4 “Martin has the patience to teach. I was looking for people who understood the overall ambition of the project and could contribute to the team in a selfless way. Martin was my first choice.”

NAME: Kevin Escoffier
POSITION: Bowman

BACKGROUND:
Eric has participated in numerous single handed competitions – crossing the Atlantic over 10 times. As well as being a hugely accomplished single-handed sailor Eric is also a very good surfer, but despite traditionally favouring these lonesome pursuits Eric is a key part of the crew dynamics. His experience alongside his natural intuition and perception give him an excellent listening ear for his team mates – he is vital to ensure the Team are really gelling. This will be Eric’s first Volvo Ocean Race – we just hope he doesn’t miss his other love, his flock of black sheep, too much!

Thomas holds the record for the fastest completion of the Route de la Decouverte with Spindrift, winner of la Route des Princes with Gitana and winner of the Figaro transatlantic ‘Brittany – Martinique’ single handed. Thomas first encountered Charles as a rookie offshore sailor, competing in a transatlantic race. Half way through Thomas separated from the fleet due to a weather miscalculation and was left isolated in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The duo became close friends and have been racing with and against each other ever since.

Horace is the youngest member of the Team who has also become a bit of a poster boy – with the camera loving his strong physique and cheekbone structure.
