About Haydn Sewell
Sailing is in Haydn Sewell’s blood. From a tender age, Haydn watched his father sail and was introduced to some of the biggest names in the sailing world through his management of sponsorships and events. Having qualified to sail for Team GBR at just 11, Haydn has gone on to rank first in the Optimist World and European Championships. Musto couldn’t be more impressed by the seemingly unending passion and skill this young sailor has already demonstrated in his fledging sailing career. He was an obvious choice for Musto’s Ambassador Programme.
In His Own Words
Hi, my name is Haydn Sewell and I am a 420 sailor. I started sailing 8 years ago in an Optimist, which I carried on sailing until I was 15. I grew up living on the Isle of Wight, so the sea and sailing were all around me. My dad was also involved in the sailing business, so I grew up surrounded by events like Cowes Week and Round the Island Race.
Currently, I sail a 420 which is a two-person dinghy. It combines hard, fast racing with lots of technical boat work, which is what I love.
So far in my sailing career, I have represented Team GB in the Optimist World and European Championships which were held in Thailand and Ireland. I also ranked first in the UK during 2016-2017, which was a highlight for me.
Why choose Musto?
I love Musto kit because it combines warmth and protection while still looking cool and sleek.
My favourite piece of Musto kit is the Foiling ThermoHot Impact Steamer because it is warm and thick however it feels like you are wearing nothing, meaning you can easily move, and of course it’s very stylish.
My goal for the future is to become a professional sailor. I want to go to the Olympics and then progress from there onto other aspects of sailing such as big boat racing and coaching. Long term I’d also really enjoy competing in the America’s Cup but for now I am aiming to make the UK Youth Squad by the end of 2018.
