Meet the Magenta Project
The Magenta Project is a new initiative set up by former members of Team SCA, the first all-female team to compete in the Volvo Ocean Race in over 12 years. They were also the first all-female team to win a leg of the race in 25 years.
Their aim is to inspire and challenge stereotypes, showcasing both physical and mental strength in women; to do this, they will continue to raise the bar and compete at the highest level. Lead by the phenomenal Sally Barkow, a multiple world champion, two-time ROLEX Yachtswomen of the Year, Olympian and VOR competitor. Team Magenta 32 will be the first all-female team in history to compete in the World Match Racing Tour, this year.
"What started as an opportunity for women in offshore sailing to show that gender doesn’t hold you back, very quickly changed into something far larger than the race. People are being challenged to view women differently."
Musto Ambassador Sam Davies
Renowned single-handed sailor and long-term friend of Musto, Sam has competed in two Vendee Globes, the toughest solo round-the-world race, finishing 4th in 2008. Sam has also sailed in the challenging Open 60 class for over 10 years. Most recently she was skipper of Team SCA in the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15. Now, we’re delighted to have Sam onboard as a Musto Ambassador.
